At the start of this week, Naomi turned two weeks old. She was back above her birth weight. She had her tiny feet plunged into her first chilly lake.

  • In Five Years, by Rebecca Serle (2.5)

    • a romance/friendship story whose ending I actually did not see coming

  • Malibu Rising, by Taylor Jenkins Reid (3)

    • two generations of a very complicated family; lots of surfing; a big party; very entertaining but also made me cry sometimes (hormones? These books have all been making me tear up a lot)

  • The Thursday Murder Club, by Richard Osman (3)

    • okay, very delightful - a very funny book about a bunch of endearing older folks in a retirement home who solve murders

  • Writers and Lovers, by Lily King (3.5)

    • I really like King’s writing style. This book doesn’t have a plot, per se - it’s a “literary romance” as Drayton called it, following one young writer’s life/love life

  •  Troubled Blood, by J. K. Rowling (under the name Robert Galbraith) (2.5)

    • the fifth in her series about a private detective agency in London. A pretty fun read, but this whole series reads weirdly sexist to me. (Note - checked out from library. No financial contributions to Rowling!)

  • Leave the World Behind, by Rumaan Alam (1.5)

    • what the heck, with this book. It’s a - literary apocalyptic thriller? But somehow not much ever happens. Definitely eerie/creepy, and there were some things I liked about the writing, but overall extremely unsatisfying.
