Naomi turned eight weeks old at the start of this week! Practically a grown-up now! Mid-week, my mom and I drove back to Minneapolis from Ferndale - nice to be home, so sad to have left the friends and family of Michigan. At the end of the week, our dear friends Robyn and Fawkes got married and Naomi was a ringbearer! Her first wedding. She's getting extremely smiley and has added some new sounds to her repertoire, including a surprising, possibly happy shriek.
- Fleishman is in Trouble, by Taffy Brodesser-Akner (3)
- in some ways I really liked this book and felt myself very gripped; but at the same time, I skimmed whole big sections of it, impatient and a little bored. The ultimate plot/message is pretty subversively satisfying. As a review in the New Yorker put it, this novel "meanders amiably until it becomes, suddenly, all sharpness."
- We Were Never Here, by Andrea Bartz (2.5)
- a quick read, a little scary/spooky when reading in the middle of the night. More predictable/less twisty, with slightly more care given to the writing, than this thriller genre usually is.
